Staffelter Hof - Jan Matthias Klein

IMG_7290.PNG

Staffelter Hof has 10 Hectares of grapes in and around Kröv. Most of the vines are white varieties (90%) and most of the white is Riesling, it is the Mosel after all. But they also grow Müller-Thurgau, Sauvignon Blanc, Gelber Muskateller and three reds; Spätburgunder/Pinot Noir, Regent and Frühburgunder (similar to Pinot Noir but ripens earlier, hence the “früh”). Founded in 862, and that’s not a typo, Staffelter Hof is one of the oldest companies in the world. Jan Matthias Klein took over in 2005 and they converted to fully organic starting in 2011 and were certified in 2014. In Kröv in the painfully beautiful Mosel region of Germany, seriously, one of the parcels is in an area that’s actually called Paradise (Paradies).
