Milan Nestarec

Milan Nestarec is arguably the most-known Czech natural wine grower and producer - and for a good reason!

Milan has been involved with winemaking since childhood thanks to his father who had an extensive wine-growing experience from a German vine nursery. The family eventually built their own vineyards with restituted plots of vines as well as newly acquired ones and today, there are 13 plots across small villages around Velké Bílovice in South Moravia, where Milan grows his wines. Luckily he has enough to share most of the years since his wines are exported as far as Australia, Canada, Brazil, and Malaysia.

We are lucky to have a small allocation of Milan's wines and are always happy with the new arrivals. Be it the reliable white labels which are just ageless beauty, or his experiments or limited series, we are never disappointed picking up one of his daily drinkers, aka his one-litre bottles, which prove that a good wine does not have to look fancy or cost a fortune.

Although Milan is one of our winemakers with the largest vineyard in terms of hectares, he works naturally - or as he says, he makes normal wine; with no herbicides, pesticides, or industrial fertilisers and systemic treatments. He understands the importance of attention to detail, consistency and the ability to react to what is happening in the vineyard or the cellar.

We love his wines for their energy and longevity, and we can tell many people do too. Finding Nestarec on our shelves usually brings a reaction the type of 'Oh, I love this wine producer/bottle!', or 'Wow, this bottle is sold out where I live!'.
