The vineyard was started by Pierre Frick’s parents. The 12 hectare domaine in Alsace and is now run by him, his wife Chantal and their son Thomas. Closer to Basel then they are to Strasbourg, the Domaine Frick is in a town called Pfaffenheim, a village that dates back to the Romans. There’s been organic Frick wine flowing in Alsace since Pierre Frick’s parents converted in the 1970s. They went biodynamic in 1981, got Demeter certified in 1986 and have sworn off sulphites since the late 90s!

Alsatian classics like Pinot Blanc, Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Muscat, Riesling, Auxerrois, Sylvaner, Gewürztraminer adorn their fields, the wines are aged in old 3000L oak tuns that “breathe”, allowing the wine get used to air without imparting strong oak flavours. Organic since the 1970s! But the Fricks weren’t the only ones. Organic and biodynamic farming techniques became quite popular in Alsace in the 1970s, and now more than 16% of all grapes grown in Alsace are certified organic.
